February 7, 2017: Battery Technology Advances
This webinar session will present technological advances in battery design and current applications. Attendees will learn about options in selecting a battery to meet the power and energy demands for equipment, for mobile service, and backup power for fixed equipment. This topic will cover options for packaging and configurations as well as charge and discharge methods.
February 14, 2017: Safety and Regulatory
This session will review the safety and regulatory compliance for batteries and battery packages. From transportation of individual batteries to incorporating the battery into a product, the engineer must consider all safety implications. Standards for assessing conformance will be presented. In this session, we examine the more common requirements and delve into identifying conditions of acceptability that must be satisfied when designing products using battery technology.
February 21, 2017: Battery Management
This session expands on the Battery Technology session and explains charging systems and advances in battery-powered devices monitoring, such as wireless reporting status to a central office for remote monitoring. Advanced battery technology incorporates many sensor technologies that make battery operation highly reliable, virtually eliminating many potential failure modes. The latter is especially important in medical device technology.
February 28, 2017: Care and Handling
This session discusses methods based on the technology to maximize the operation and longevity of battery function. From the average user of battery technology to designers preparing product user instructions, the attendee will learn about methods to meet these goals. We explore how the user awareness can support this objective during operation as well at end-of-service.
Isidor Buchmann is the founder and CEO of Cadex Electronics Inc. He studied batteries in practical, everyday applications, has written award-winning articles including the best-selling book “Batteries in a Portable World,” now in its fourth edition, and the educational battery website www.BatteryUniversity.com
Murray Hill is the Traffic Coordinator at Cadex Electronics and has over 15 years of experience shipping company products such as batteries. Several battery chemistries are categorized as dangerous goods and are regulated under IATA and TDG guidelines for Air and Ground transport. Murray is trained in those regulations.
Gary Kwok is an Application Engineer at Cadex Electronics and has over 17 years of experience in the battery industry. He has extensive knowledge on the manufacturing, assembly, and testing of most rechargeable systems. With a broad range of markets, he helps verify batteries from small toys, to medical products, to reports for NASA.
Bruce Adams is an OEM Sales Executive at Cadex Electronics. Mr. Adams manages OEM accounts in defense, medical and other highly regulated industries. With more than 20 years of experience in improved battery reliability for our partners, Adams focuses on customizing and integrating Cadex Diagnostic Battery Management technology into our products. He joined Cadex in 1996 and holds a BSc degree from the University of British Columbia.
